Everyone,

Don't forget about the Diversity Breakfast (like I did in class this morning). They'll start serving food at 7:30 AM and the program starts at 8:00 AM.

ENG 102, we are all registered to attend. Remember, we'll be meeting in Keene Johnson Ballroom before 8:00 AM; the program will last until around 9:30 AM but you may leave at 8:50 AM if you need to get to another class.

EELI, Mr. Smith and Ms. Payne, I think, are taking you.

See you at the breakfast!

Friends, Romans, Countrymen...

As the semester progresses, it seems to me that the Online Writing Lab at Purdue University might be particularly useful to you all. Click here to go to the website; it has information about writing college papers, including how to organize a paper and how to write in MLA and APA styles. It's all free, too.

A Good Example from Your Peers

Everyone,

Here is a good example of how to set up your blog and post your introduction, thesis, outline and conclusion.

Also, for students who are writing about animal rights, this could be a good resource. Perhaps you could work with Carsissa to enhance your own research.

Creating an Outline

Everyone,

Here is a template to follow while working on your outlines. This template, which is from the St. Helen's School District in Oregon, exemplifies an outline quite well, except for Part A in the introduction. Remember what we discussed in class about creating introductions. You need to grab the reader's attention (and keep it) while providing information that both introduces your thesis and prepares the reader for the coming discussion.

Steroids in baseball have been at an all-time high this decade. Since 2000, year after year number of players have been linked to steroids. Some of the athletes deny the allegations, and some tell the truth. The MLB has to buckle down on this before it gets worse. The steroids are not only bad for the sport now, but even worse to the players future health. Steroids should be prevented in baseball because of all the negative health effects, unfair play, and the damage is does to baseball's image.

Outline:
1. Negative Health effects
a. Long Term effects
b. Short Term efffects
c. Roid Rage

2.Unfair Play
a. Added Power
b. Added Energy
c. The huge jump in stats

3. Damage it does to baseball's image
a. Fans losing Love for the game
b. Disrespectful to all the players who played drug free
c. Records get broken that never should have

Conclusion

Steroids have to be taken from baseball 100% before its too late. Fans are fed up with these athletes not being true to the game. These athletes don't realize there hurting themselves more than anybody in the long run. Using a susbstance like this can end your career faster than they think. Steroids should be prevented in baseball because of all the negative health effects, unfair play, and damage it does to baseball's image.

into and conclusion.. yepppp

Throughout the years technology has thrived, changing the world around us. For schools this means new ways to teach, new lessons, and new attitudes. While many teachers grew up in a time when technology in the classroom was not important, the students are growing up in a society that is dependent on it, causing the teachers to have to change their ways of teaching to adapt to the students. Because of these advancements in technology, teacher and student morals, teacher training, and education standards have changed drastically, and for the better, over the past 15 years.

Although it is more work for the teachers, adapting to the changing world that is becoming more and more dependent on technology is very important. Knowing these skills and understanding how to manipulate the technology will no doubt help the children grow and become more successful in life by opening opportunities in which they would not have without an understanding of the advancing technology. When you understand the world around you, nothing is out of reach.

Having a baby is one of the mothers most joyous times in a woman's life. It can also be the most overwhelming. Pregnancy is a precious time to nurture the body, mind, and spirit. Drinking alcohol has major effect on expecting mothers.
It is really important for every expecting mother to attend a pregnancy class at any cost. This can inform them better how to avoid alcohol during pregnancy. As of today premature birth, birth defects have become the most conflict in society. Not every expecting mother is aware of the effect of alcohol on their unborn baby. A free pregnancy class should be offered because it prepares them to get the idea of being responsible. This class could support all mothers through hard time because during pregnancy conflict arises all the time such as anxiety, stress, and personal issues. This pregnancy class should convincethat drinking alcohol doesn’t solve any stress, loneliness, or depression.
Ultimately, health care system should provide every expecting mother with a free class pregnancy. This will alert expecting mothers the cause of drinking alcohol during pregnancy. It is highly recommended for every mother to attend a pregnancy class. By taking this course every expecting mother will gain a general understanding of it.

Eastern's Diversity Breakfast will be on Wednesday, September 22.

EELI students, Ms. Payne and Mr. Smith told me you will be attending; I am also bringing my ENG 102 class. They are going to be using this blog as well.

ENG 102 students, instead of meeting for class on 22 September, we will meet in Keene Johnson Ballroom at 7:30 AM. I have confirmed our reservation with the people who handle catering, so they know to expect us. The program lasts until 9:30 AM, but if you have a class immediately after ours, you may leave at 8:50 AM--when our class would usually dismiss.
