Today in class, we will discuss how to format essays; we'll use your topics as examples. Your homework recently has been to work on your topics and the introduction to your essay.
By now, you should know about what you want to write. After we discuss outlining essay topics, we'll discuss thesis statements. Those are the guiding statements of the essay; in essence, thesis statements are a summary of the entire essay in just a few sentences.
Thesis statements are placed at the end of an introduction; the function of an introduction is to present your reader with relevant information and to interest him or her in your essay. We'll talk more about introductions and thesis statements in class today.
